The Life of Klimt

DEATH

Klimt spent his final years with Emilie Flöge, his lifelong partner and muse. While he never got married, it is believed he had several children from casual relationships. Klimt kept painting intensively throughout his last years, but World War I profoundly affected his life and practice. Shortly after suffering from a stroke in January 1918, he passed away from pneumonia. He was buried in the Hietzing cemetery in Vienna, leaving behind a revolutionary artistic heritage that continues to inspire entire generations of artists.
