A Journey into Klimt’s Art

Welcome to a room where beauty, history and emotions interweave to give you a unique immersive experience. Thanks to projections, animations and evocative music, you will go through the key phases of Gustav Klimt’s artistic journey. From the innovativeness of the Secession to the gilded explosion of the golden phase, up to his late period.

Klimt’s Eras

The Viennese Secession. Enter the mythological and symbolist world of the Viennese Secession, an artistic movement that challenged all conventions. Let yourself be guided by Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, and observe the transformation of the tree of life as it unfolds into iconic works such as Pallas Athena (1898) and Nuda Veritas (1899). This moment will be accompanied by music that reflects the idealism and beauty of the art.

Medicine, Philosophy, Jurisprudence

Discover the reconstruction of the three monumental works destroyed in a fire in 1945. From the few existing black and white photos, the colours of the paintings are slowly brought back to life, culminating in a symbolic blaze that echoes their tragic end.

The Beethoven Frieze

Learn about the Beethoven Frieze inspired by the composer’s Ninth Symphony. Follow its protagonist, the Knight, as he journeys through “the yearning for happiness” and “the hostile forces” before reaching “the choir of angels from Paradise”. The motion graphic animations will bring this celebration of love and humanity to life.

The Golden Phase

Immerse yourself in the golden splendour of Klimt’s most famous artistic era. Inspired by the Byzantine mosaics in Ravenna, the artist transforms his works into timeless masterpieces, such as The Kiss (1907-1908) and Danaë (1907-1908). The tonal shift from matte to shiny reflects the triumph and magnificence of this unique style.

The Late Period (Flowers)

With the decline of the Belle Époque, Klimt faces an existential crisis. He abandons gold and the refined lines of Art Nouveau for a more intimate and natural expression. Discover masterpieces such as The Virgin (1912) and The Bride (1918), which reflect the growing modern art movement and the emotional impact of the war.
