IL PERIODO AUREO

The Life of Klimt

THE GOLDEN PHASE

In 1903, Klimt began his famous “Golden Phase” which was influenced by the Byzantine mosaics he saw in Ravenna. This period was the peak of his career, characterised by extensive use of gold, decorative patterns and symbolic elements. The masterpieces that resulted from this practice were also emotionally charged. Iconic works such as The Kiss and Judith I perfectly exemplify this phase, becoming symbols of sensuality and refinedness. Rich in ornamental details, Klimt’s compositions elevated the human figure to a mystical and universal level, consolidating his place as a master of symbolist art.
