IL CINEMA NASCENTE

THE BIRTH OF CINEMA

The invention of cinema and the works of Georges Méliès, with their surprising visual effects, fascinated Gustav Klimt and stimulated his artistic vision. Famed for their imaginative visuals, Méliès’ films were some of the very first to use special effects, allowing for the creation of fantastical and surreal worlds. They expanded the possibilities of expression for an entire generation of creatives. This new cinematic art not only influenced the aesthetics of Klimt’s time but also encouraged him to explore new levels of symbolism and complex narratives in his works, adding to their visual dynamism and echoing the energy of cinema.
