DONNE INFLUENTI

INFLUENTIAL WOMEN

In Klimt’s work, the female form embodied beauty, strength and modernity. Women like Bertha von Suttner, a pacifist activist who was the first woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, and Sophie Menter, an internationally renowned pianist, were key figures in the Viennese cultural scene. Adele Bloch-Bauer and Emilie Flöge were not only Klimt’s muses but also represented free and independent women. The dancer and choreographer Grete Wiesenthal revolutionised the dance world with her expressive and innovative movements. In his paintings, Klimt celebrated the female nude as a symbol of power and sensuality, challenging bourgeois conventions. His works, imbued with symbolic details and precious decorations, reflect an artistic and social revolution in which women are not only subjects but protagonists.
